IMX Camp Update

December 17, 2019 by Bill Martin

IMX Campers and Parents,

Congratulations to the 110 swimmers who were selected to attend the IMX Camp this year!

I hope you finished up your mid-season focus meets with success and are now looking forward to the upcoming holiday season!  We are really looking forward to this year’s IMX camp and have some great things in store for the swimmers that they should really benefit from.   As always, we have a great group of coaches from across NC Swimming to share information and work with our swimmers on December 28th & 29th!

Jonathan Watson – NCS Programs Vice-Chairman

Jay Dodson – IMX Camp Director

Amy Faulk – Zone Team Coach (Camp Head Coach)

Blake Addison – TAC

Kelly Bouchard – WNCY Piranhas

Pierce Bradshaw – NSS

Mark Franz – YOTA

Austin Goldstein – MOR

Elise Haan – MOR

Katherine Holian – SGSA (2020 NCS Camps Coordinator)

Katie Quillen – SGSA

Casey Sink – WAVE (2020 NCS Zone Team Head Coach)

Ned Swanson – MSA

This is a great opportunity for our swimmers to work with different coaches and experience practicing with swimmers from across the state.  We will also be doing some dry land work and other out of water activities such as bowling & yoga.  Throughout the weekend we have checks and balances in place to make sure that the groups are supervised and that all swimmers are accounted for.

I wanted to go ahead and get some basic information to you about the camp weekend while I am waiting to hear back on a few final details.  You will receive an email with more specific instructions regarding check-in and pick-up later this week or at the first of next week before camp.

Please make sure that swimmers bring:

  1. Equipment Bags (what they normally take to practice)
  2. Clothes for dry land and yoga (can use some of the same clothes for some things but note there are several things that may require a fresh set of socks, shorts, etc.)
  3. Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  4. Towels, suits and swim bag

As in the past, our transportation will be provided by Wesleyan Transportation Services.  Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast as well as some snacks are included in the camp cost.  Swimmers should eat lunch before checking in on Saturday and then the only money your swimmer will need is if they would like some money to spend at the bowling alley for additional snacks or games.

Arrival and Check-In on Saturday, 12/28, will be between 11:30-Noon (we will be setting up prior to that so please wait until that time) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, 1921 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27403; (336) 315-8498.  If you have any medications, please bring them in a plastic baggy with your swimmers name on it and include any instructions. This will be turned in to the coach at your swimmer’s check-in table.

Lodging:  We will be spending Saturday night at the Fairfield Inn, 4308 Big Tree Way, Greensboro, NC 27409; (336) 369-1300.  We will be eating Sunday morning breakfast here as well.

On Sunday, 12/29, we will have a camp wrap up from noon to 12:15 and checkout at 12:20.  Please be on time to pick up your swimmer.

Finally, a special thanks to Jonathan Watson for completing the camp qualification and sign up process.  We are expecting 110 athletes at this year’s IMX CAMP.  Also thanks to Bill Martin for setting up the online registration process!  Great job!

Thanks for participating in the NC Swimming Camp Program and I hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season!

We are looking forward to a Great Camp!!

NCS short course records fall at Winter Juniors

December 16, 2019 by Bill Martin

Several North Carolina Swimming short course records were broken at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships in Atlanta. Claire Curzan of the TAC Titans set new 15-16 women’s marks in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and 100 fly. Her times in the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 fly were also new records in the 15-18 age category. Curzan’s 50 free and the 100 fly times established new National Age Group records!

Three other NCS men’s records fell, as well. Sam Hoover of NCAC broke the 15-16 men’s 200 IM record while Tim Connery of SwimMAC set a new mark in the men’s 15-18 100 breast and Reid Mikuta of SwimGSA lowered the record in the men’s 15-18 200 breast.

The SwimMAC men’s 4×200 relay team of Tim Connery, Hugh Svendsen, Ike Atkinson, and Baylor Nelson also set a new NCS record.
