2021 NCS Awards Ceremony

North Carolina Swimming held its Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 2 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. The event followed the NCS All Star Clinic, which featured U.S. Olympic Team member Ashley Twichell as its guest clinician. Coaches Amy Faulk, Mark Franz, and Sarah Chaires assisted at the clinic. After the clinic swimmers enjoyed some sandwiches in the Triangle Aquatic Center’s new Atrium and listened as Twichell recounted some of her experiences on the way to becoming one of the nation’s top Open Water swimmers.

NCS General Chair Trish Martin welcomed the crowd and Master of Ceremonies Jonathan Watson announced the awards. Coaches Amy Faulk and Jon Jolley helped Ashley Twichell present the awards. Coach John Payne introduced the Open Water Swimmers of the Year.

New Wave Swimming earns Safe Sport Club Recognition Status

Congratulations to New Wave Swimming (WAVE), the latest North Carolina Swimming club to earn USA Swimming’s new Safe Sport Club Recognition! The Safe Sport Club Recognition program distinguishes USA Swimming clubs that demonstrate their commitment to creating safe, healthy, and positive environments for all of their members through the development and implementation of Athlete Protection Policies, Safe Sport Best Practices, and Safe Sport education.

WAVE has been highlighted as a Safe Sport Recognized Club with a banner on its team listing in the USA Swimming Find-a-Team Search and will receive a medallion for their club’s website as well. 2021 Scholastic All America Selections: NCS #1

USA Swimming just released its Scholastic All-America selections. Once again, leading all Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) in Scholastic All-America selections was North Carolina Swimming, which had 90 athletes receive the honor. SwimMAC Carolina, with 31 Scholastic All-America athletes led all clubs across the country.

2021 Fall HOD: Delegate Registration

NCS Clubs:

The 2021 Fall North Carolina Swimming HOD will be held as planned at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh on Sunday, October 3 at 1:00 PM.  Those attending in person will cast their votes at the meeting.  For those choosing not to attend in person, there will a virtual option for casting your votes.

The HOD Meeting Schedule with separate ZOOM meeting registration links for each meeting has been posted on the NCS website.

Whether your club’s delegates will be attending in person or via ZOOM,  you will need to pre-register your delegates by following the step-by-step instructions below.

  1. You must declare your club’s delegates to Barb Frith by SEPTEMBER 29th .
  2. Please check the Delegate per Club Count List for the number of non-athlete delegates you are permitted to name for your club. Each club also may name one athlete delegate.
  3. Send an email to Barb Frith at pfrith@mac.com and include:
    • Name and valid email address for each non-athlete delegate.
    • Indicate which delegates will be attending in-person or via ZOOM.
    • Name and valid email address for your athlete delegate. If your athlete delegate is under 18, please copy a parent/guardian on your email to Barb.
  4. This information is due to Barb no later than SEPTEMBER 29th.
  5. PLEASE NOTE that all declared delegates must be USA Swimming members in good standing on October 3rd, 2021. Please check your club portal for any membership issues your delegates need to address before October 1.
  6. Delegates who will be attending via ZOOM must receive their personal voter identification number from Election Buddy prior to the October 3rd HOD.
    • On October 1st, the eligible delegates you name will receive an email from Election Buddy at the email addresses you provide.  
    • The email will include their personal Election Buddy voter identification number that they must use to vote at HOD on October 3rd at 1:00 PM.
    • The password to unlock their ballot will be provided at the HOD meeting held Sunday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM.
    • Delegates MAY NOT vote by proxy. They must attend the Zoom HOD meeting on October 3rd at 1:00 PM to receive their password and cast their votes.

2021 Fall HOD: Proposed Legislation

The following proposed legislation will be voted on at the 2021 Fall HOD.  Please review the legislation prior to the House of Delegates meeting on Sunday, Oct 3, 2021.

To help streamline the voting process and minimize the expense of online voting, a review of the proposed legislation will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, Oct 2. Those with questions or concerns on the proposed legislation are encouraged to attend. There will also be an opportunity to make changes in the proposals with submitter’s approval.

NCS “A-Team” Swim Camp

The NCS “A-TEAM” Swim Camp, targeting swimmers ages 11-14  whose long course times in 2021 ranked them highest among swimmers achieving “A” time standards, will be held at the Triangle Sportsplex in Hillsborough, NC on November 7, 2021. Check-in time for the camp is 8:45 am. The camp will run from 9:15 am – 4:30 pm.

Athletes selected were those who ranked highest during the long course season in the 100m Fly, 100m Back, or 100m Breast and who had not achieved a long course time faster than the National “A” time standard.

Swimmers on the list below are invited to the first-ever “A-TEAM” Swim Camp.  Coaches will focus the water sessions on butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke and each will feature older athletes who have demonstrated excellence in the particular stroke highlighted. Athletes on the list should register on the NCS website no later than October 1, 2021. The “A TEAM” camp fee is $60 for the one-day camp and the PayPal link can be found on the application form.

Complete camp details will be sent out about 14 days prior to the camp.

NCS Board of Directors: Nominees

In accordance with North Carolina Swimming Bylaws, the Governance Committee has nominated candidates to be considered by the House of Delegates (HOD) for the Board of Director positions identified below.  Additional nominations can be made from the floor at HOD prior to elections.  Nominees may choose to accept or decline consideration at any point prior to the election.  Nominees are:

NCS Awards Ceremony/Fall HOD Updates

2021 NCS AWARDS CEREMONY

The North Carolina Swimming Awards Ceremony will not be held at the McKimmon Center as originally planned but instead will be held at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary Saturday, October 2, 2021, following the NCS All Star Clinic. The ceremony will recognize NCS All Stars in attendance at the clinic. The NCS All Star Clinic is exclusively for those on the NCS All Star list and will be held at the Triangle Aquatic Center beginning at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Pre-registration is required to attend the All Star clinic.

A registration form for the NCS All Star Clinic, along with additional information will be emailed to those on the All Star list in the next few days.

2021 NCS FALL HOUSE OF DELEGATES

The 2021 North Carolina Swimming Fall House of Delegates (HOD) meetings will be held at the McKimmon Conference Center in Raleigh on Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3, 2021.

The Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Saturday afternoon from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm. The Technical Planning meeting is planned for Sunday morning from 10:00 am – 11:30 am with HOD registration at 12:30 pm and the HOD meeting at 1:00 pm. 2021 NCS All Star List

Below is the list of North Carolina Swimming athletes who achieved NCS All Star status during the period beginning on Sept 1, 2020 and ending on Aug 31, 2021 (athletes are listed by club code). The colored bars next to each swimmer’s name indicate how the athlete achieved All Star status and whether All Star status was achieved in multiple ways.

Those achieving All Star status will receive an All Star towel. Towels will be sent to the swimmers’ clubs for distribution

The NCS All Star list includes swimmers who achieved All Star Status in at least one of five ways.

  1. NCS Top Five short course times in at least two strokes (must be AAAA or better) as of Aug 31, 2021
  2. NCS Top Five long course times in at least two strokes (must be AAAA or better) as of Aug 31, 2021
  3. National Top Ten achievement in short course by individual age group as of Aug 31, 2021
  4. National Top Ten achievements in long course by individual age group as of Aug 31, 2021
  5. Open Water All Star recognition

2021 NCS All Star List

  • Each NCS swimmer who achieved NC Top-5 “AAAA” times in two or more of the following categories: distance freestyle, sprint freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, or individual medley in Short Course Yards is a NCS All Star upon verification by the NCS All Star Committee. The recognition period began September 1, 2020 and ended August 31, 2021.
  • Distance Freestyle and Sprint Freestyle are considered distinct ‘strokes’ along with Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley. Distance Freestyle include freestyle events 400 and longer for 17-18, 15-16, and 13-14; 200 and longer for 11-12 and 10&Under. Sprint Freestyle include freestyle events 200 and shorter for 17-18, 15-16, and 13-14; 100 and shorter for 11-12 and 10&Under.
  • Each NCS swimmer who individually achieved at least one USA National Age Group Recognition Top 10 Time in either short course or long course is an All Star. Season-ending USA Swimming National Top Ten rankings by individual age as of August 31, 2021 determine achievement. USA Swimming rankings by age include ages 11,12,13,14,15,16,17, and 18,
  • Swimmers are recognized as an NCS Open Water All-Star based on the Open Water All Star selection policy.
