NCS short course records fall at Winter Juniors

December 16, 2019 by Bill Martin

Several North Carolina Swimming short course records were broken at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships in Atlanta. Claire Curzan of the TAC Titans set new 15-16 women’s marks in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and 100 fly. Her times in the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 fly were also new records in the 15-18 age category. Curzan’s 50 free and the 100 fly times established new National Age Group records!

Three other NCS men’s records fell, as well. Sam Hoover of NCAC broke the 15-16 men’s 200 IM record while Tim Connery of SwimMAC set a new mark in the men’s 15-18 100 breast and Reid Mikuta of SwimGSA lowered the record in the men’s 15-18 200 breast.

The SwimMAC men’s 4×200 relay team of Tim Connery, Hugh Svendsen, Ike Atkinson, and Baylor Nelson also set a new NCS record.

Below is a summary of the new NCS records.

NCS Swimmers at U.S. Open

December 14, 2019 by Bill Martin

Several athletes with North Carolina Swimming connections competed at the Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta last week. Many of the athletes are former NCS club swimmers now swimming for colleges and elite programs. Some of the top performances included a win in the 100 free by Erika Brown of Tennessee and formerly with SwimMAC. Olivia Carter of Enfinity Aquatic Club finished 2nd in the 200 fly with Charlotte Hook of the TAC Titans finishing 7th in that event. Ashley Twichell of TAC placed 4th in the 800 free and 7th in the 400 free. Michael Chadwick, formerly with SwimMAC and now with Team Elite, finished 6th in the 100 free and 8th in the 50 free. Hannah Moore of WOLF finished 5th in the 1500 free. Carter, Hook, and Moore swam finals in other events, as well.

Other NCS-connected athletes reaching finals included Julia Poole, Madison Kennedy, Lilly Higgs, Amanda Ray, Zach Brown, Braeden Haughey, Ross Dant, Reid Mikuta, and Christian Bayo.

2020 Registration Reminder

December 13, 2019 by Bill Martin

NCS Coaches and Clubs:

USA Swimming Registration Requirements

NCS Non-Athlete Registration Form:  Send the completed form for each coach to Barb.  Coach registration is not done through Team Unify. Fees increase after 12/20/19.

NCS Club Registration Form: Send the completed form to Barb.

  • Concussion Protocol Training – take it and send Barb the certificate by 1/2020.
  • Coaches Advantage Training – all coaches will need it by 1/2020.
  • APT will now be annual from when you take it.  Unless recently taken, all APT will expire 12/31/19
  • Be sure everyone has the DeckPass Plus app – it shows EVERYTHING on it, so if something isn’t right, it means 1) Barb made an error typing it or 2) you never sent it to Barb or 3) SWIMS didn’t match it to your record – especially if you have a Jr. or III or the like after your name, or if you chose to log in with a nickname.
  • And 2nd year coaches – need 201 and Rules & Regulations to be renewed – Barb has about 30 that she is sitting on, where the form was mailed in, but they haven’t taken the testing.
  • Also, just a reminder that this is the 2020 registration year – Barb has gotten many 2019 forms and the checks are for $70 instead of $72, and they don’t see the info on Concussion Protocol or Coaches Advantage.
  • Deadline for coach and club renewals for $72 and $95 is 12/20/19.  After that the fees go up to $112 and $200.
  • All current registration information and forms are on the NCS website and easily accessible.
