NCS long course records fall

August 3, 2022 by Bill Martin

Several NCS long course records fell at meets held in the last couple of weeks. Albert Smeltzer (SGSA) bettered his own record in the 13-14 boys 50 free at the Southern Zone Championship meet in Tupelo. Sam Marsteiner (WAVE) set a new record in the 13-14 boys 1500 free at Junior Nationals earlier this week. With fast times being swum at Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA, we can expect more records to fall as that meet continues…stay tuned.

NCS records also were set at the Futures meet in Cary last week. Clem Camacho (TAC) broke the 13-14 boys 400 IM record and Grayson Nye (TAC) established the new mark in the 15-16 boys 200 breast. TAC Titan relays also entered the record book in both the 18U men’s and women’s 400 medley relay events. Will Thompson, Grayson Ney, Colin Whelehan, and Jerry Fox made up the record-breaking men’s team, while Taylor Morris, Samantha Armand, Charlotte Hook, and Keelan Cotter teamed up to shatter the women’s mark. The women’s 400 medley relay time was also a new National Age Group record!

Meanwhile, at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine last week, Norvin Clontz (MAC) had a monster meet, breaking 15-16 boys records in three events – the 400 free, the 800 free, and the 400 IM. SwimMAC teammate Ben Delmar also set a new NCS record in the 15-18 boys 200 breast. Another NCS record fell when Will Gallant (WOLF) broke the men’s open record in the 1500 free. SwimMAC also set a new record in the 18U boys 200 medley relay with the team of Caleb Maldari, Matthew Kroll, Harrison Ranier, and Tiesen Harris.

Congratulations swimmers!
