New NCS Long Course Records
Two more NCS Long Course records were set during recent weekend meets. Keelan Cotter of the TAC Titans broke the women’s 11-12 800 free record at the TAC Long Course Distance Intrasquad meet this past weekend. The SwimMAC relay team of Cam Abequeta, Matthew Kroll, Baylor Nelson, and Reid Miller captured a new record in the men’s 13-14 200 medley relay at the SGSA Eastern Invitational meet two weeks ago. Congratulations swimmers!

2018 Phillips 66 Service Award: Nominations
Send in your nomination for the 2018 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award!
Below is the form for submitting your nomination for the 2018 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award. Each year North Carolina Swimming has the opportunity to select a recipient for this Award. The award, sponsored by Phillips 66, is presented to a volunteer in each LSC in recognition of service to swimming. Recipients of the Outstanding Service Award are selected by the LSC and receive the award and an Outstanding Service Award pin. Please email your completed nomination form to pfrith@mac.com by August 15, 2018. The winner of the Phillips 66 Service Award will be selected by the Awards committee and announced during the NCS Awards Banquet and at the HOD meeting the weekend of October 6-7.

NCS Records Fall at Triangle Classic
NCS Swimmers have already begun re-writing the NCS long course record book this season. Four new long course records were set at the TAC Titans TYR Triangle Classic this past weekend. Charlotte Hook (TAC) broke the women’s 13-14 100 back and the women’s 13-14 200 IM records while Lance Norris (RMY) set new marks in the men’s 13-14 200 back and the men’s 13-14 400 free. Earlier this season, Norris established new records in the men’s 13-14 800 free and the 400 IM. Congratulations swimmers!

Open Water Pan Pac Qualifiers
Two NCS athletes have qualified as members of the USA team for the 2018 Open Water Pan Pac meet. Ashley Twichell (TAC Titans) qualified earlier at the Open Water National Championships. She has been joined by Hannah Moore (Wolfpack Elite) who earned a spot at the French Open Water Championships.

ASCA Athlete Survey
I am one of seven coaches selected to the American Swim Coach Association (ASCA) 2017 Fellows Class. The purpose of our project this year is to explore how our athletes learn, how they communicate and what is important to them. Our goal is to promote leadership and best coaching practices to meet the needs of our athletes. The athlete survey is one key component of a year long project that has also involved research and coach interviews.

USA Swimming Bright Ideas Contest
USA Swimming’s Bright Ideas contest submissions due June 1st-in one month!
North Carolina Swimming can submit a Bright Idea in any or all of the LSC Evaluation and Achievement Program(LEAP) categories:
Business and Organizational Success
Volunteer Development
Club/Coach Development
Athlete Development
A finalist will be chosen for each category and will be asked to present their “Bright Idea” during a session at Convention. The audience will choose the overall winner and the winning LSC will be awarded a grand prize of $1000!!!!
Drop dead date for submissions is midnight June 1, 2018. There is no limit to the number of entries an LSC can submit. It’s time to pull up that awesome program and get it in the running for $1,000!!!
