2024 Carolinas Diversity Camp

Camp Description

ELIGIBILITY
Athletes must be a registered member of USA Swimming (Premium, Flex or Outreach). Athletes must represent an ethnically under-represented population that is less than 10% of the current USA Swimming membership to be eligible for this camp.

Athletes age 11-16 must have achieved at least one “B” time standard or have competed in at least three (3) USA Swimming sanctioned competitions during the current qualifying period (September 1, 2023-April 1, 2024).

A total of 40 athletes (20 from South Carolina and 20 from North Carolina) will be selected to attend.

Medical release forms will be given to all selected camp members immediately following selection.

Any questions regarding the diversity select camp or the application process may be directed to South Carolina Swimming DEI Chair Martha Chiwanza or North Carolina Swimming DEI Chair Jamie Bloom.

Activities will involve two in-water sessions, educational sessions and an opportunity for parents to learn about officiating, in addition to learning opportunities from guest speakers.

Thanks to our collaborative partnership, North Carolina Swimming and South Carolina Swimming  are able to present this opportunity to our athletes at no cost.

2024 ESSZ Senior Sectionals

2024 National Diversity Select Camp: Applications

USA Swimming invites up to 56 athletes from diverse populations to participate in a three-day camp program which includes pool training, motivational and education sessions and team-building activities. Selection is based on times achieved at USA Swimming sanctioned events. The 2024 NDSC athlete application will open Monday, January 15 and close on Sunday, February 18. The application will be linked to this page HERE (usaswimming.org). Athletes will be notified of their selection no later than Friday, March 15. The 2024 National Diversity Select Camp is scheduled for June 13-16, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

2023 Toyota U.S. Open Championships

Congratulations to all NCS Swimmers, Coaches, and Officials on a great meet this past week. Top swimmers from around the world came together in Greensboro, NC, competing at the 2023 Toyota U.S.Open Swimming Championships.

In Memory of Coach Alex Black

Joel “Alex” Black III (July 5, 1974 – Nov. 22, 2023)

It is with Great sadness that I inform you that we lost a member of our NCS family, from accomplished swimmer as a youngster in the Winston Salem area, a respected Coach of several NCS Clubs and NCS Zone teams, Coach Alex Black passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 after a hard fought six and half years of colon cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Betty, his son Joel, and the entire Black family during this time of loss.

If you knew Coach Alex in any capacity please share memories celebrating his enthusiasm and joy for life on our North Carolina Swimming FB page and on our Instagram @nc.swim Alex was truly one of a kind making a difference in the lives of many.  Life is Short, Live every day to it’s fullest. Coach Alex you will be missed by so many near and far. RIP Coach Alex Black
