NCS #1 in Scholastic All-America Selections

September 18, 2020 by Bill Martin

2019-2020 Scholastic All-America Roster

NCS Athletes on Scholastic All-America Roster

In a competition year shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 1,087 swimmers whose efforts in the classroom and in the pool successfully earned them the title of Scholastic All American. The honor is given to 9-12th grade students who maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average and have swum an individual pool time equal to or faster than the 2019 Winter Junior qualifying time in any individual event from August 16, 2019-August 31, 2020.

Out of the 1,087 swimmers to be selected to the team, only U.S. National Team member Torri Huske (Arlington, Va./Arlington Aquatic Club) came away with a perfect score by earning a 4.0 GPA and finishing first in a 2019 Toyota U.S. Open event. Huske claimed her Toyota U.S. Open title in the 100-meter butterfly, going 57.48 to set a new 15-16 National Age Group (NAG) record and claim first ahead of a decorated field.

Leading all Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) in Scholastic All-America selections was North Carolina Swimming, which had 101 athletes receive the honor. Within North Carolina Swimming was SwimMAC Carolina, whose 29 Scholastic All Americans led all clubs across the country. In the club rankings, another NCS club, the TAC Titans finished fourth with 19 selections.

2020 NCS All Star List

September 3, 2020 by Bill Martin

Below is the list of North Carolina Swimming athletes who achieved NCS All Star status during the period beginning on Sept 1, 2019 and ending on March 15, 2020 (athletes are listed by club code).

Since there was not a true long course season and limited opportunities for most swimmers to compete after the COVID outbreak, this year’s awards are based on short course achievements and rankings beginning on Sept 1, 2019 and ending on March 15, 2020.

2020 NCS All Star List

This year, the NCS All Star list includes swimmers who achieved All Star Status in at least one of three ways.

  1. NCS Top Five short course times in at least two strokes (must be AAAA or better) as of 3/15/20
  2. National Top Ten list by individual age group as of 3/15/20
  3. Open Water All Star recognition
  • Each NCS swimmer who achieved NC Top-5 “AAAA” times in two or more of the following categories: distance freestyle, sprint freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, or individual medley in Short Course Yards is a NCS All Star upon verification by the NCS All Star Committee. The recognition period began September 1, 2019 and ended March 15, 2020.
  • Distance Freestyle and Sprint Freestyle are considered distinct ‘strokes’ along with Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley. Distance Freestyle include freestyle events 400 and longer for 17-18, 15-16, and 13-14; 200 and longer for 11-12 and 10&Under. Sprint Freestyle include freestyle events 200 and shorter for 17-18, 15-16, and 13-14; 100 and shorter for 11-12 and 10&Under.
  • Each NCS swimmer who individually achieved at least one USA National Age Group Recognition Top 10 Time in short course during the recognition period is an All Star.
  • Swimmers are recognized as an NCS Open Water All-Star based on the Open Water All Star selection policy.

2020 NCS Top Five List

September 3, 2020 by Bill Martin

Below is the list of North Carolina Swimming athletes who finished with a Top Five time in one or more short course events during the period beginning on Sept 1, 2019 and ending on March 15, 2020 (athletes are listed by club code). Top Fives are listed by age group – 10U, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18.

Since there was not a true long course season and limited opportunities for most swimmers to compete after the COVID outbreak, this year’s awards are based on short course achievements and rankings beginning on Sept 1, 2019 and ending on March 15, 2020.

Top Five age group rankings should not be confused with the NCS Top Ten rankings, which are listed by individual age. Top Five achievement also has nothing to do with order of finish at NCS championship meets, but are based on age group rankings at the end of the qualifying period…which this year was March 15, 2020.

The new meet table has the same information as the previous meet schedule but is more secure, much faster, and offers additional features…including a meet calendar.

Below is a video clip with information and tips on using the new meet search and calendar tools.
