Relay records fall at Age Group Champs

July 18, 2021 by Bill Martin

Several NCS Relay records fell at the North Carolina Swimming Age Group Long Course Championships this past weekend at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. The TAC Titans 13-14 Girls relay team of Lily Willis, Sydney Holfelder, Nicole Zettel, and Mere Whelehan posted a record time in the 800 Free Relay,

SwimMAC Carolina’s 11-12 Boys relay teams broke three records. Carter Medlin, Gabe Hardy, Gino Prabhu, and Thomas Greathouse erased the old mark in the 200 Free Relay. The same group also set a new record in the 400 Medley Relay. Medlin, Greathouse, and Prabhu were joined by Griffin Cagle in clocking a new record in the 400 Free Relay.

The SwimMAC 13-14 Boys relay team of Max Osman, Norvin Clontz, Granger Bartee, and Evan Prabhu set new records in both the 800 Free Relay and the 400 Medley Relay. Their time in the 800 Free Relay also established a new National Age Group record! Here’s an article that appeared in SwimSwam.

2021 Zone Team applicant tracker

July 15, 2021 by Bill Martin

Below is the 2021 NCS Zone Team Selection spreadsheet link for parents to view and track their swimmer’s progress over the weekend for both 14 & Under AG Champs, as well as Senior Sectionals.

Zone Spreadsheet

All applicants MUST be on the spreadsheet before Saturday, July 17, end of Prelims session by 10am!

Completed applications along with checks will be accepted until 10:00 am on Saturday, July 17 for 11-14 athletes and until 10:00 am on Saturday, July 17 for 15-18 athletes at their respective NCS Age Group Championship Meet and Senior Sectional Meet.  However, due to the complexity of the selection process, applicants are strongly urged to get the applications in earlier, if possible.

Senior (age 15-18) selection will be based on times through the Senior Sectional Meet in Greensboro, July 15-18.  Swimmers should apply even if they are not participating in the Senior Sectional meet.

ZONE TEAM SELECTION POLICY

For the 2021 Southern Zone Championship, 16 athletes (8 males and 8 females) will be selected in each age group—11-12; 13-14 and 15-18—to represent North Carolina Swimming.  Since no athlete can compete who has achieved USA Swimming Junior National qualifying times, the closer an athlete is to those qualifying times, the better he or she can expect to do in the competition.  Top 6 based on overall points will be selected for the team and 2 coaches picks to make the most well rounded team representing NCS at the SZAG Championship meet in Tupelo, MS.

June 21, 2021 by Bill Martin

Congratulations to all the athletes who represented NCS so well at the USA Olympic Team Trials in Omaha!

Claire Curzan joined TAC Titans teammate, Ashley Twichell, as a member of the USA Olympic Swim Team!  Curzan earned her spot on the team by finishing second in the women’s 100 fly.  Twichell qualified earlier in the 10K Open Water event.  Former SwimMAC Carolina member, Erika Brown, also qualified for the Olympic Team with a second place finish in the women’s 100 free.

Who has qualified for Team USA?

There were several other notable performances by North Carolina athletes in the Olympic Team Trials, held in two waves over the past three weeks.  Ross Dant, now swimming for NC State and formerly with YSST, nearly qualified, finishing third in both the men’s 400 free and the men’s 800 free.  Charlotte Hook of the TAC Titans was also very close to qualifying  for Tokyo, finishing third in the women’s 200 fly.  Several others qualified to swim in semifinals and finals.
