NCS members named to Southern Zone Select Camp

May 27, 2020 by Bill Martin

Several NCS athletes and coaches were named to the 2020 Southern Zone Select Camp. Amy Faulk (SwimMAC), and Kristina Bond (Team Charlotte) were named to the coaching staff. Female athletes representing NCS include: Lily Welsh (TAC Titans), Sofia Plaza (ATOM), Paige Thome (SwimMAC), Nicole Zettel (TAC Titans), and Lily Willis (TAC Titans). Male athletes selected were: Henry Lee (TAC Titans), Ross Noble (YOTA), Andrew Li (TAC Titans), and Max Marrujo (TAC Titans).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these camps were pivoted to a virtual format to provide the athletes who’ve earned this distinction a unique learning experience. The sessions, facilitated by James Leath, founder of Unleash the Athlete, are scheduled for Saturday, May 30, and will include discussions on leadership, including navigating change, setting and adapting goals, mental resiliency and character development. Athletes will also attend a virtual panel discussion with current and former National Team athletes, including Kelsi Dahlia, Hannah Moore, Sean Ryan, and Tom Luchsinger.

Congratulations Swimmers and Coaches!

Save ECU Swim & Dive Program Petition

May 23, 2020 by Bill Martin

East Carolina University announced Thursday that it is reducing the number of its intercollegiate athletic programs by four, effective immediately. The action is being taken as part of the University’s overall budget restructuring efforts and is part of a detailed analysis of ECU’s athletics financial position during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Affected programs are men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. The move affects 68 student-athletes and nine coaches. ECU previously led the American Athletic Conference with 20 sports (following the departure of Connecticut) and will now have 16 sports (9 women’s, 7 men’s).

Click here to read the entire article from ECU News Services.

The Save ECU Swim & Dive petition below has been initiated so the swimming community can voice its concerns. Please join North Carolina Swimming in petitioning ECU to reconsider this decision.

Safe Sport – Additional Training for Parents this week!

May 19, 2020 by Bill Martin

The USA Swimming Safe Sport staff is hosting weekly Zoom trainings to help clubs achieve the training requirements of the Safe Sport Club Recognition program.

The sessions for both parents and athletes include a one-hour training. Attendance will be taken via a survey at the end of training and the USA Swimming staff will manually update the Club Portal so that clubs receive credit towards recognition. There will also be weekly training available for coaches to learn more about the Safe Sport Club Recognition program and how to share Safe Sport information with their athletes, parents, staff and other non-athlete members. The coach training is not a requirement of the recognition program but is a way to earn additional optional points.

This week we are proud to offer an additional training session for parents. This session will be offered on Wednesday evening and can be accessed using the same link.

There is no registration required at this time. Attendees need only join the meeting using the links provided below and come willing to participate and learn.

For more information on the ways to complete the training requirement of Safe Sport Club Recognition, please reference this document: Training Opportunities Resource.

ZOOM Safe Sport Training

April 22, 2020 by Bill Martin

Good evening Safe Sport Champions!

We are excited to announce that starting tomorrow Wednesday, April 22, USA Swimming Safe Sport staff will be hosting weekly Zoom training’s to help club’s achieve the training requirements of the Safe Sport Club Recognition Program.

Safe Sport Club Recognition Program: Training Options

Parents and athletes will tune in for the one hour training where attendance will be taken so their clubs receive credit. There will also be weekly training available to coaches where they will learn more about the Safe Sport Club Recognition program and how to share Safe Sport information with their membership.

There is no registration required at this time, attendees only need to join the meeting at the links below and come willing to participate and learn.

Please pass this meeting information along to clubs in your LSC’s.

We will hold these training’s weekly starting tomorrow April 22nd and every meeting will be held from 3:00-4:00pm EST.
