Updated (MAAPP) Requirements

June 10, 2021 by Bill Martin

USA Swimming’s top priority continues to be creating healthy and positive environments free from abuse for all its members. As part of its commitment to safeguard athletes, USA Swimming has released an updated Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) applicable to all USA Swimming Adult Participants, Zones, Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) and member clubs. These required updates come from the U.S. Center for SafeSport (the “Center”). USA Swimming’s updated MAAPP document has been approved by the Center and is required to be fully implemented by USA Swimming, its Zones, LSCs and member clubs. USA Swimming has set a deadline for those organizations to implement the policy in full no later than September 1, 2021; all organizations are encouraged to implement the MAAPP prior to the September 1 deadline.

To help prepare USA Swimming members, there are new resources available:

  • Four informative, hour-long webinars, with varying dates and times, to maximize membership participation.
  • A editable MAAPP 2.0 document for organizations to download and customize.
  • Educational documents to help guide and assist all USA Swimming member clubs.

For more information about MAAPP 2.0, please click the link below or visit usaswimming.org/MAAPP

NCS awarded Select Camp Grant

May 18, 2021 by Bill Martin

North Carolina Swimming was one of nineteen Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) that were awarded LSC Select Camp Grants from USA Swimming. NCS will receive the $3500 grant thanks to the efforts of NCS camps committee chair, Jonathan Watson. In a continued effort to provide resources for more locally driven efforts, these grants allow age-group athletes an increased opportunity to attend a camp while not requiring them to travel too far from home.

Thanks for making it happen, Jonathan!

NCS Revised Face Covering Guidance

May 18, 2021 by Bill Martin

Following new CDC recommendations and the North Carolina Governor’s latest Executive Order issued May 18, 2021, North Carolina Swimming has revised guidance on the use of face coverings at USA Swimming activities as follows:

  • North Carolina Swimming strongly recommends that partially vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals continue to wear face coverings and practice social distancing at all swimming activities.
  • Other individuals are welcome to continue wearing face coverings for personal comfort.
  • NCS and member clubs may require that participants wear face coverings and observe social distancing at practices, team activities, team travel, camps, clinics, and competitions.
  • NCS members are expected to comply with all COVID-19 safety guidelines from USA Swimming, North Carolina Swimming, the State of North Carolina, local jurisdictions, aquatic facilities, and member clubs.

These are North Carolina Swimming’s recommendations and guidelines going forward. If your club or the facility chooses to enforce more stringent requirements, please include those in your upcoming meet sanction requests. A revised meet sanction template that includes these changes will be posted and distributed in the next few days.
