Friends in Swimming!
By now many of you have heard discussions or read various articles regarding the issuance and implementation requirements for the USA Swimming Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP). Our focus and priority continues to be protecting our athletes. All of our North Carolina Swimming (NCS) clubs are required to comply with and update their policies, to reflect the MAAPP by June 23, 2019. I want to ensure you that NCS is aligned with USA Swimming’s leadership regarding protecting our athletes from abuse and any form of emotional, physical or sexual misconduct. During the next few weeks, the NCS Safe Sport and Safety Coordinator, Rebecca Landre, e-mail: safetychair@ncswim.org, will be providing additional guidance and recommended best practices for all of our clubs to integrate into their policies and procedures. Also, teams and head coaches will be receiving important NCS membership communications/notifications regarding those athletes who will be turning 18 years of age over the next few months and will include specific directions and requirements to ensure a seamless transition as an “Applicable Adult” and the ability to maintain eligibility.
Here is the link to the MAAPP Implementation page which should be your starting point for questions that you may have regarding the MAAPP. As additional information becomes available, this webpage will be updated concurrent with any e-mail notifications that may be issued.
If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Rebecca or myself.
Best Regards,
Dave Olack
