Hello IMX CAMP Attendees, Parents and Interested Parties:
This is the first correspondence from us since you applied to the IMX Camp and first, let me welcome all 115 of you who have submitted your application and payment. I have received your check and information and you are now formally a part of our 2012 IMX Camp which will take place in Greensboro on the weekend of January 21-22, 2012. Checks were forwarded to the NCS Treasurer this past Monday, so they should be clearing your bank accounts in the very near future.
The Camp Director for the 2012 IMX Camp is Coach Jay Dodson, Head Coach of STAR Aquatics. He is finalizing the exciting plans and all the logistics for this year’s Camp and we will post the information soon.
Here are a few items that we wish to communicate at this time:
LODGING
Originally, we were planning to have the swimmers out at the Airport Marriott. Those plans have changed as we realized the logistics of moving 115 athletes between that hotel and the Aquatic Center were likely to be problematic. Coach Dodson has re-booked the camp at a much closer hotel and will announce its location in his information. We are trying to be sure that each swimmer has their own bed or a pull-out couch for their overnight stay.
GREENSBORO AQUATIC CENTER
With the IMX Camp at the new Greensboro Aquatic Center, the swimmers will be training in a beautiful new facility when they come to the camp this year. As part of the camp, we are working on a tour of the ACC Hall of Fame Museum housed at the adjacent Coliseum, a yoga session, as well as three workouts over the course of the weekend. This and some fun surprises will really allow the North Carolina athletes to interact and make new friends from across the state.
COACHING STAFF
With 115 athletes (58 girls/57 boys) we were sure to need a big staff this year. We have called on many of the best and brightest from the LSC and the following coaches responded to our call:
Camp Director Jay Dodson (STAR)
Head Coach Nathan Durrell (STAR)
Asst. Coach Russ Kasl (MAC)
Asst. Coach Raz Cuparencu (RSA)
Asst. Coach Patrick Curran (YOTA)
Asst. Coach Kiki Farmer (YWNC)
Asst. Coach Griff Helfrich (NCAC)
Asst. Coach John Ravestein (TYDE)
Camp Coordinator Jonathan Watson (MOR)
Thank you, coaches!
CHAPERONES
Coach Jay Dodson will be the Camp Director and as part of his on-site duties, he will be charged with delegating tasks to our “chaperone team”. Coach Jay is interested in hearing from anyone wishing to be a chaperone which requires USA Swimming membership and passing the USA Swimming background check and athlete protection program. If you would be interested and can be present throughout the duration of the camp, please contact Coach Jay. Part of the chaperones duties will include carrying out the plans that Jay makes.
APPAREL ITEMS
Once again we have plans for some awesome “swag” as it is known in swimming circles. The fleece jackets last year were a hit and we wouldn’t want to disappoint, so I will be sending one final check to see that I have the correct sizes for all the athletes. I will be ordering these items just after Christmas, so please be sure I have the correct size that you wished to get. The size list will be sent to everyone soon.
ODDS & ENDS
I have been asked what the $150 cost covered and did not cover. The $150 will cover the swimmer’s lodging, the facility rental, the apparel gifts, the meals throughout the camp and a few other odds and ends. As not all swimmers can be “maintained” on the same level of food intake, it is recommended that athletes who need large amounts of sustenance, bring along additional appropriate snacks.

There will be some additional forms including a Code of Conduct that will need to be brought to the camp or mailed to Coach Dodson before arrival.
The logistics of exactly where to meet and where and when to be picked up from the camp will all be coming soon in a separate email.
In the meantime, you mail feel free to email Coach Jay or myself with any questions about the camp and if we can answer them, we will.
Looking forward to a fantastic experience at the NCS IMX Camp just over a month away.
