Here is a list of NCS coaches with expired certifications: Expired Coaching Certifications as of August 29, 2012
If your name is on this list it means that you have one or more certifications that are expired. With the beginning of a new swimming year this week, it is critical that you get recertified so that you can coach in practice and at a meet. You are not legal to be on a practice deck at this point! We know that there are names on this list of individuals who are no longer coaching in NC. Please send us a return email to alert us that you should be shown as NC UN. You are still a member of USA Swimming and NC Swimming until December 31, 2012, but until you are recertified, you are not able to coach in NC Swimming.
If you are a head coach, recognize that you will not be able to host a meet until you are recertified. If you are the only coach on your team and your certifications are not up to date, your club cannot compete in a meet. Swimmers may attend but will have to swim unattached and another coach will be required to sign for your swimmers and monitor them at the meet during warm-ups or the swimmers cannot compete. Without a certified coach on deck at a practice, your team may not practice. Your insurance through USA Swimming is not valid. Any head coach whose team is without a certified and registered coach is likely to be brought before a NC Swimming Board of Review.
We are working on a process to post a list for the coming month of certifications that will be expiring. We do not want to see any names on an expired list! If your registration is not valid because you have not taken the APT, here is the link on the USA Swimming website (under Safe Sport) to take that training. It is done online and takes about 45 minutes to complete. This training is required for all non-athlete members of USA Swimming.
At the NC Swimming HOD meeting in September (22-23) in Raleigh, classes will be offered on Sunday morning for recertification. Trish Martin, NC Safety Chair, is setting these classes up at TAC. Cost is $65. This is a great opportunity for you to get renewed if you do not have a class in your local area. Be aware that you are not legal to coach until you are recertified.
Your immediate cooperation is requested. Please respond if you are no longer coaching in NC. Contact Barb Frith, Registrar, if your expiration is not correct. You will need to provide Barb with a class roster, signed, or a copy of your recertification card to update your certifications. Barb’s email is firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are no longer associated with a NC team, please let Barb or me know as soon as possible.
