North Carolina Swimming clubs and area colleges were among teams from throughout the country competing at the 2018 USA Swimming Winter Nationals in Greensboro. There were outstanding performances from some of the sport’s most elite competitors. Olympic champions Katie Ledecky, Nathan Adrian, and Simone Manuel each earned wins at the event. North Carolina-based swimmers were paced by TAC’s Ashley Twichell who swam for the cycle with a first in the 1500m free, a second in the 800m free, and a third in the 400m free. Several NCS athletes also earned swims in the B and C Finals.
Once again North Carolina Swimming is well-represented at one of the nation’s highest level meets. The Greensboro Aquatic Center is hosting the USA Swimming Nationals this week and several NCS Officials were invited to officiate. They include (from left to right) Dwight Dickerman, Richard Wilson, Dave Olack, Lisa Olack, Jon Fox, and Wayne Shulby.
The USA Swimming Winter Nationals are underway at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Olympic Gold Medalist and world record holder Katie Ledecky won the 800m freestyle by nearly fourteen seconds. Fellow Olympian Jordan Wilimovsky won the men’s 800.
Two North Carolina swimmers finished in the top three. Ashley Twichell of the TAC Titans finished second in the women’s 800 while Ross Dant of the Hickory YMCA Seahorse Swim Team placed third in the men’s 800.
Former YMCA of the Triangle (YOTA) swimmer Hannah Aspden, now swimming for Queens University, broke three American Paralympic records at the 2018 Sheraton Le Meridien Fall Frenzy Invite at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte. The two-time Paralympic Games medalist broke her own American records in the following backstroke events.
50 backstroke: 29.81 (by .3 seconds from 30.11)
100 backstroke: 1:01.76 (by 1.3 seconds from 1:03.06)
200 backstroke: 2:14.40 (by 1.27 seconds from 2:15.67)

The 2019 North Carolina Swimming Club Development Incentive Program is available to all NCS Clubs and offers them up to $1,000 in awards. The program rewards a wide range of activities from developing swimmers to filing your registration and coach membership forms on time. The Club Development Worksheet is available to view the activities and to help in completing the online form. Last year, 20 teams earned between $500 and $1000. Opportunities to earn points with early USA Swimming registration start this month!
